Hult Prize Panel

June 23 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

With great joy, our CEO, Leda Di Marti, has been selected as a panelist for the Hult Prize 2023, Duai Summit, hosted at the Hult Dubai International Business School in Media City, Dubai. The Hult Prize Foundation is known for challenging young entrepreneurs worldwide to tackle pressing global issues through social entrepreneurship.

This year’s Hult Prize focuses on the theme of fashion, aiming to engage over 200,000 students worldwide to present original ideas that can help save the world. The competition aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals adopted by all member states in 2015 for a sustainable future. Specifically, the SDGs relevant to building a more sustainable fashion industry post-pandemic include Gender Equality, Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Clean Water & Sanitation, Decent Work & Economic Growth, Responsible Consumption & Production, and Climate Action.

This accounts for 20% of all industrial water pollution. Additionally, the manufacturing process of garments contributes to 9% of the planet’s microfiber contamination, posing a threat to aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity. Furthermore, the fashion supply chain is responsible for up to 8% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, leading to climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution.

The panel also included other experts who shared their experiences in the fashion industry.

Matteo Boffa, a serial entrepreneur in sustainability and co-founder/investor of Thaely, a shoe brand that employs vegan leather and recycled components with compostable packaging, provided valuable insights.

Francois Schweitzer, General Merchandiser Manager at Etoile, brought his extensive experience in brand relations to the discussion.

The Hult Prize has a significant impact, engaging millions of young people worldwide and encouraging the creation of innovative social startups. Each year, over 100,000 students from more than 120 countries participate in the competition, developing and refining their ideas with our support. Many of our alumni have successfully launched high-impact businesses that have made a tangible difference.

after the panel: the panelists Leda Di Marti and Federica Gioia Engaged with Global Student Entrepreneurs at Hult Prize Dubai Summit.

The Hult Prize was established in 2009 by a group of Hult International Business School students with the backing of the Hult family, founders and owners of EF Education First, and benefactors of the Hult International Business School. It has since become the world’s largest global annual student competition, challenging participants to present game-changing business ideas that address pressing social issues.

The panel’s purpose was to inspire the startups in attendance by sharing how the three experts have created significant ventures within the fashion industry. By shedding light on the challenges and urgent need for sustainable practices, the panelists aimed to encourage creative and responsible approaches to address these pressing issues.

Together, we can work towards a more sustainable and responsible fashion industry that benefits both people and the planet.

For the 2023 edition, the Hult Prize emphasizes the importance of addressing as many of these goals as possible for participants competing for the $1 million USD prize. Keywords such as circularity, research, manufacturing, disposal, consumption, marketing, and disruption, all within the framework of sustainable practices, respecting the production chain, workers, the environment, and raw materials, are vital.

During the panel, our CEO had the opportunity to share her insights and experiences with the audience. She discussed her background as a buyer and the challenges she faced in her early career in New York, revealing the hidden realities of the seemingly glamorous and invincible fashion world. She emphasized that the industry faces significant issues that need to be addressed.
